On Johns Island in Charleston County, South Carolina, there lives an ancient and regal oak tree known as the "Angel Oak."

It is estimated to be 1500 years old and the oldest known tree east of the Mississippi. In winter, its dark evergreen leaves showcase its power and grace compared to the other trees. With a winter rain, resurrection ferns, non-parasitic plants, cover its ranches and further enhances the tree's elegance. I cannot help feeling inspired by this ancient being and awed when in its presence. It feels to me that it holds sacred its existence on this holy planet and deserves its place of spiritual pilgrimage.

Cold cast bronze. This piece was created in 2014 and was a limited edition of 20. It measures 37.5 x 22" framed. The actual sculpture is 27 x 12" unframed.
